One of the things that we'd like to see on this forum is a reasonable discourse about BDSM / D/s that respects both online dynamics and real time dynamics. We are of the opinion that while BDSM obviously originated in a very exclusive real time format, it's naïve to ignore what is happening online today with regards to BDSM and the "community at large." It is our hope that we can find a place that respects the limitations or availability to practice the lifestyle however possible, while being honest about our limitations when it comes to offering insight, advice, or encouragement in activities in which we have not had the opportunity to participate in real time.
By this we mean that we respect online relationships of a D/s nature as a fact of life in a digital age. It's a potential Pandora's Box that can not be closed therefore, it's highly naïve to wish to nullify and/or ignore it because we believe that D/s can only be experienced in real time. Obviously there are certain aspects of D/s that can only be experienced in real time and lacking those experiences leaves many both wishing and hopeful. We do not believe that there are no possible D/s aspects that can be experienced, though admittedly limited online. Power exchange can exist in many elements of daily life and are not limited to time and space, for example.
If we refuse to acknowledge the online experience we will simply drive seeking people away from venues that can provide them with a safe, sane learning environment. We are endeavoring here to not cast judgements on those with less experience but to provide a format that can bring a reasonable, responsible conversation to the lifestyle at large. There are those who may start out with online limitations but find that their circumstances change and allow for real time, intensive D/s interactions. Keeping this in mind we want to provide a solid base of information to help equip people as much as possible for real time D/s interactions.
It is our hope that any who participate here will be honest in providing anecdotes of experience and instruction ... not based upon fantasy or previous reading, but in true experiences that can help educate others. Of course with any online format there is only so much that can be done to insure that this philosophy is followed ... all we can do is hope for a space of mutual respect and commitment.
While you are welcome to agree or disagree fundamentally with the online vs real time quandary ... this forum will attempt to respect both as much as possible. With that in mind it's helpful to avoid posts that are deliberately crafted to make digs at legitimacy or illegitimacy of a person's experiences unless it's germane to the discussion to do so.
